Burlington senior portraits | Callan is inspirational

Written by Amber -

Callan is a senior at Burlington High School (Burlington, WI). We loved getting to know her at one of our most unique senior sessions yet! We were inspired by her involvement in school, her achievement in 4-H, her various leadership activities and the fact that she is a radio DJ at her high school's radio station. Seriously, this girl's got it goin' on!

Enjoy these highlights from her session along with her story...

Callan definitely made an impression on us with more than just her pretty looks. She's got a certain calming charisma about her—you get the sense that she is level-headed to the nth degree and super smart. "I think I have a very good ability to adapt to problems that happen in life," she said.

She's been a part of Driven, a Leadership Program at her school, for the past three years. "I have been told that I am a great leader," Callan said. "I think that I work well in groups and can get things done."

"In Driven we help get the freshmen used to life at the high school and we also organize service projects to help the community," Callan explained. "When younger people look up to me it really motivates me to be a better person."

On the topic of underclassmen, Callan leaves the advice, "Don’t be afraid to get outside of your comfort zone." No doubt, she followed her own advice—talk about a multi-faceted student! You never know what kind of talent you'll discover you have unless you try new things.

To her fellow graduating seniors, Callan encourages, "Be prepared to keep learning, there is so much we have to learn that is out there beyond high school." Amen, sister.

Callan told us that she is really looking forward to this school year. She's excited to finally be in a few classes she's been waiting to take since her freshman year. "After graduation, I will miss being able to see my friends every day," Callan said. "We are all going off in different directions and I will miss having their constant support."

Callan's number one choice for college is definitely UW Madison, but at this point she's undecided on her school and major. "I really would like to study forensics and become a forensic investigator."

Callan has been involved in 4-H for eight years. "I love it so much! I have come so far from when I started." She's been involved in a wide range of programs including photography, leadership, traveling, robotics, and even cake decorating!

"In 4-H, I am involved in so many different things from promoting 4-H through ambassadors to traveling to Norway on an international exchange." How cool is that? This November Callan is heading out on another trip to Atlanta, Georgia. "It is just another privilege I have gained through 4-H."

Callan enjoys mentoring the youngest members in 4-H, sharing her experiences and helping them on their first projects. "It makes me feel like they now have a good foundation to start building positive skills."  It is not at all surprising to learn that this year, Callan was selected as one of the Outstanding Teens for Racine County 4-H!

"My favorite activity at BHS is definitely the WBSD Radio Station. I love being a DJ and I have made so many friends," Callan shared. "It is so cool to be able to interview different artists!" You can listen in online to WBSD (89.1FM) and catch Callan's very own show, "Women in Rock.” It was obvious that Callan came alive in that recording studio. Hearing her on air was so neat! In fact, she enjoys DJing so much, she works as a DJ at the roller skating rink, too. How fun!

Callan has also been in two school musicals. She was in the chorus for both 'Les Miserable' and 'Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat'. "My favorite high school memories would probably be when I was in Les Miserable my junior year. It was a lot of hard work but when we got to show week it was so amazing and the whole process was a ton of fun."

Well, keep up the hard work and determination, Callan. Between your leadership abilities, achievements inside and outside of school and your DJing skillz, you are a true inspiration to many! Continue to pursue what you love and best of luck to you in the process.
