Maddy | St. Catherine's High School Senior '14
Written by Amber - |
Ahh, Maddy… We had the honor of shooting this senior's session last fall. As I look through her images again, I am reminded of how stunning she is! Her pretty red hair & gorgeous smile are to die for, but that's just the beginning. This young lady is super involved in her school organizations and her community—love her outlook on life, responsibility she holds herself to, and the dedication she has to whatever she does.
"I am from Franksville, but I have always attended St. Catherine's High School (Racine, WI) and it has been the best four years I could have asked for," Maddy said, thinking back on her high school experience. "Since Freshman year I have played tennis and my Junior and Senior year I played #1 doubles and placed third place at state last year and second place this year. Tennis has been one of my biggest successes and I know it is because of all the time I dedicated and I was able to improve to the point where I was a state ranked player."
Outside of athletics though, Maddy has been very involved in school organizations. "I am the president of the Interact Club and take charge of many service projects, including an annual school-wide corn hole tournament." Maddy is also part of Youth as Resources (YAR) and through that organization, she volunteers quite a bit and helps select who will receive grants for their projects in the community.
Brains? Yep—she's got those, too. Ha! I loved this article about the Rube Goldberg Team Maddy was a part of through her high school. Students in their Advanced Topics in Physical Science class demonstrated their knowledge in physics, chemistry and engineering by creating a deliberately complex, hand-built machine that completes a mundane task. This year, their team took 1st place at the Regional Tournament in Waukesha and moved on to Nationals. So cool!
She makes it look easy, but behind all the headlines is a whole bunch of hard work. To underclassmen, she encourages, "DONT PROCRASTINATE! Due dates are truly earlier than they appear and it is never a good idea to wait until the night before to write an entire paper. It creates way too much stress on the body." Wise words.
Maddy has truly soaked in her senior experience. "Besides the State tennis tournament, my favorite memory is attending all of the football and basketball games," Maddy said. "Nothing is better than cheering on a team you are proud of and getting to see all of your friends playing. And then after all the games, my friends and I go to Denny's for a late night dinner."
To her fellow graduating seniors, she leaves a simple, "Good luck!" Maddy continued, "Their is nothing I want more than my classmates to be successful and to follow their heart and choose a profession that they love." After graduation, Maddy is heading to the University of Marquette to major in engineering.
In the meantime, Maddy said, "I am looking forward to just enjoying every minute with my best friends. I know next year I will not be able to talk and see them every day so I know I have to enjoy the time I do have with them. These are the people that I will miss most about high school."
How exciting! Maddy, we wish you the best for the rest of your senior year and at Marquette in the fall. You're going to do great! We loved the opportunity to get to know you this fall—you seriously rocked this Session. :)
