more than a vacation

Well, we ventured out to the Pacific Northwest for a weekend getaway over 4th of July weekend. It was our first vacation since our honeymoon, actually, and was much-needed. How refreshing it was to get away and spend some time in beautiful scenery with wonderful company.

In the midst of the slight chaos in our lives lately, the timing of this trip couldn't have been better. Hanging out with Sara and Randy was so inspiring - it was so cool to hear what the Lord is doing in their lives, both through high times and low. We shared our stories with them as well, as all 4 of us encouraged each other. SO good to see them in person! Plus, celebrating Sara's new job was pretty neat, too!

Their daughter, 3-yr-old Summer, has grown up so fast! She's freaking adorable. She kept saying, "You're my beeest friend." and wouldn't let us walk next to her without holding our hands.  We taught her important life lessons, like how to do the "rock on" symbol with your hand and how to play thumb wars & arm wrestling. Chad spent time coloring with her and I did karaoke dance party. She even asked me to be her sister :)

We totally respected the way Sara & Randy have raised her. She was SO well-behaved! Summer definitely captured our hearts, for sure. So much so that for a couple days Chad and I actually considered the idea of having kids right away.  ...That is until there was a screaming child sitting right behind us on our flight home (that brought the grand total to  3 out of 4 flights with screamers behind us). Screw that idea. For now.

Over the course of the 4 days, they spoiled us with meals, mojitos, Voodoo Doughnuts, humorous car rides, late night conversations and site-seeing adventures.  We got to see a handful of stunning waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. hood (the "snowy mountain"), the Pacific Ocean at Cannon Beach, a beautiful rose garden, and even 4th of July fireworks & sparklers.

U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E weekend. Seriously. We'll keep that one close to our hearts for a long time. AND, we're looking forward to a Fuhs Family visit in September!

Here is an album of some more of our vacation pictures.
