The Grafenauer Family | Real Life Session '15

This is the story of a young family of five. It's a family that loves well, plays hard and works together. James, Olivia and Amelia get along so well together, but they're not afraid to do their own thing, either. I've never met a set of parents with more patience and tender care than Andy and Kim!

Kim is a stay-at-home mom and absolutely loves it (she's clearly gifted to do it as well). During this documentary, Real Life Session, I followed Kim and her two little girls in the morning as they spent time together before picking up James from his summer camp (Engineering for Kids with Lego Robotics—how cool is that?!). When they returned home, it was straight to playtime. I loved watching the kids interact with Kim—especially around their home-grown garden. Kim had such a smooth way of turning everything into a fun, learning opportunity. Everyone was thrilled when Andy came home from work for lunch and quality time with his family. It was cool to witness the way he prioritizes his family above everything else. What an amazing, loving father!

Soon after lunch, Kim began the staggered nap times for the kids, starting with Amelia (the youngest). She was really intentional about her one-on-one time with each child, whether that was reading, nursing, chatting or playing games. And I was taking notes when she put Olivia down for her nap and said "goodnight" to each of her body parts—from toes to nose—as she massaged and calmed her to sleep. So sweet...

I absolutely loved hanging out with the Grafenauers (their two cats included!) and capturing their typical, everyday life in this current season. Surely in a couple years they'll look back on these images and be flooded with memories. As the kids get older they may not remember what everyday life entailed at their young ages, but now there's evidence, frozen in time. I love this job!
