the snowpocalypse

Happy Anniversary to us!

On the morning of February 2, 2011, we woke up to what became commonly referred to as "The Snopocalypse". It was quite intense! A massive snow storm covered most of North America and crippled many areas of the country for a few days.

mystical power found
I have found it! My precious........
I was nearly paralyzed this morning by a brilliant source of light during my leisurely stroll. I was out enjoying the heat wave temps after so much recent snow, simply soaking in the sounds of chirping birds and sights of dirty, melting ice.

spirit from the stage

Last weekend, I had the honor of spending three days at Green Lake Conference Center for our church's annual Middle School Winter Retreat as their photographer.

With 10 different churches represented this year and nearly 200 students, this retreat is a very big deal—lots of planning goes into the whole event. But the coolest part is, it's so much more than just another "cool event". God receives SO much glory!

As the photographer for this event, I get to capture stills of all of the students and leaders during games, activities (indoor and outdoor in the snow), main sessions, team challenges in the gym, and more. Over the course of the weekend, I snapped over 1000 photographs and sorted & edited nearly 300 while I was there. They get uploaded to a site where the students can access them soon after they get home from the retreat.

afternoon of snowshoeing
At Christmas, Chad and I received snowshoes as one of our gifts. We had never thought about owning snowshoes before that, but we were super excited about the idea as soon as we opened them up! We've always enjoyed being outside... and living in the northern midwest means snow is on the ground for much of the year.

home for the holidays
Christmas always = travel for us. In fact, by the time we got back, the Wrangler had logged over 780 miles. But at this point in our lives, we wouldn't have it any other way. Chad and I had a GREAT time over the Christmas Holiday. We were able to spend some very memorable, meaningful time with all of our family and many of our friends. Here are a few of the highlights from the 9 days:

icicle sunrise
On Tuesday morning, December 14, the sunrise on Lake Michigan was beautiful! You could see the yellow and pink hues from the sun illuminating the steam on the water's surface. Since it's still the beginning of our cold season, the lake water is still warmer than the air. A photo-opp waiting to happen!

we gave thanks

"And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." —Ephesians 5:20

Last year, we started a tradition to stay in Kenosha for Thanksgiving and spend it with two of our best friends, Aaron & Nicole. We did that again this year, and it was definitely a hit—again. We are truly blessed to have them in our lives. God has done some incredible things in the lives & learnings of all four of us individually this year, but also as friends. We're so thankful we get to spend so much time with those two. We love them to death!

edamame

The challenge for our November photo club meeting was food. Although I heard a lot of grumbles in the group about this one, I was secretly excited. I've been doing so much outdoor photography lately, I was ready for a good indoor challenge with controlled light.
