Minimalist Bible: Creation Day 5

I've been a big fan of the minimalist poster designs. Taking something as complex as a person or a movie and stripping it down to one powerful graphical element that is instantly recognizable. I wanted to do something unique; something that had never been done before. So God hit me alongside the head with an idea: Bible stories. If you wish to see the previous posters, check out Creation Day 1Creation Day 2Creation Day 3and  Creation Day 4 now.

Each Wednesday over the last few weeks, I have been unveiling my original minimalist poster series focused on the Creation story. Today I'm excited to release the fifth poster of the series, Creation Day 5 – Part 1 and Creation Day 5 – Part 2.

A Kenosha Senior in love with fine arts

This is Sam. Bradford High School (Kenosha, WI) is where she spends her days....but not for long. Sam is graduating in a couple short months! I'm honored to have gotten to know her for a short time during our shoot. From what I learned about her, she's super chill, extremely pretty, and in love with the fine arts. We had fun using Sam's creative ideas during this session to really make the shoot unique & representative of who she is. The beaming, beautiful sunshine was a total bonus, too! Check out Sam's story...

Goodbye Winter

Goodbyes can be tough. Sometimes we have a tendency to linger; to drag them out. Winter, I feel like that's where we're at right now. You have demonstrated exceptional resilience this year and I do LOVE a pretty winter.... but don't you think it's time for Spring to have a turn?

At the beginning of March in SE Wisconsin, we received another beautiful, gentle snowfall. It was the kind that covered everything with a soft, white blanket, nice and calmly. It was so peaceful and serene looking—and not all that frigid, either! I figured it'd be the last one like it of the season (not so much, as it turns out, but anyway—) so I went out shooting with my friend Amy. We spent an hour wandering around Petrifying Springs Park in Kenosha as well as the Lake Michigan shoreline outside of my apartment.

I thought if I shared a few photo highlights in a reminiscent spirit, maybe the awkward prolonged goodbye to Winter could be wrapped up. Consider this post my lean out the front door and my wave to Winter as it backs down the driveway...

Katlin's thrill-seeking dreams

I'd like to introduce you to Katlin. She is a senior at Walden High School (Racine, WI) and is one of the sweetest people I've met. Underneath the surface though, she's a music junkie and thrill-seeker bubbling with sass. Love her spirit!  We had a blast with her during her senior portrait session, too. Family is a big deal to Katlin, so it was neat to shoot at her family's farm (which has been in the family for years) as well as the beach by the Racine Zoo where she has memories with her Grandma. And, I have to say... Katlin ROCKED the camera! Check out her story...

A beautiful Milwaukee Cathedral Wedding | Eric & Julie

At the beginning of this month, we released some beautiful photos of Eric and Julie's wedding. I hope you had a chance to see their full gallery! We just HAD to share our favorite highlights of this special love story with you. Their winter wedding day was filled with deep spirituality, rich symbolism, sweet moments and even DQ ice cream cake. Eric and Julie's friends and family gathered at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Milwaukee to witness their marriage. After their chilly horse-drawn carriage ride, everyone met the Bride and Groom at historic Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center for a very elegant reception in the ornate banquet hall. I loved seeing the interaction of the families—everyone there knew that Eric and Julie were perfect for each other!

I hope you enjoy these highlights from their big day...

Minimalist Bible: Creation Day 1

I've been a big fan of the minimalist poster designs. Taking something as complex as a person or a movie and stripping it down to one powerful graphical element that is instantly recognizable. As a designer, I love the creative and mental challenges that this concept brings. I always start to wonder "How did she come up with that?" or "That part of the movie was such a small part, but it totally makes sense now."

So I started to wonder what I could do. I wanted to create my own minimalist poster series, but all the good ones were already taken—everyone is on a superhero kick nowadays. I wanted to do something unique; something that has never been done before.
